Death is somewhat possible

"Ayer es historia, mañana es un misterio, pero hoy es un regalo. Eso es por que se llama el presente."- Master Oogway (and apparently our DL's grandma.) Hola guys! A lot happened this past week so let me cut to the chase: Compañeras nuevas!!!! Transfers happened a little over a week ago! I'm staying here in Lexington and I got 2 new comps!! Hermana Stiglich and Hermana Schaffer! They are literally so awesome! I love them so much!! Hermana Stiglich played Soccer in highschool and knows a lot about musical theatre, so we vibe over that a lot! And Hermana Schaffer is super freaking cracked at Spanish! She already knew a lot before her mission because she has a boyfriend from Columbia!! So she tells us a lot of cool spanish facts that I never heard of before! She was also a firefighter, so she's got some EPIC stories from that! El Éxito (success) Not only are my comps fun to talk to, but they're also CRAZY good missionaries! We re-organized how we contact people a...

"And I love you, random citizen"

Hola hola! Sorry I missed last week. It won't happen again... probably. Elder Caussé Last Saturday we had a mission tour from none other than our brand new apostle... ELDER CAUSSÉ!!! Woot woot!  For the past month, since we got the news, everyone had been absolutely freaking out about this. I mean, he's one of the 12! But as the mission tour commenced, we quickly found out something even better about this man- he's just a normal wholesome dude!  When he started his talk, he literally just whipped out a bunch of wholesome jokes, and you could immediately see the absolute joy this man had in his life! Also, since us Hermanas were in the front row, he said, "Hola! Buenos tardes!" And spoke a little in spanish, which was an awesome surprise! Bro's trilingual, I guess.  You could also see how excited he was when he said, "This is my first mission tour!" *looks around* "Wow! This is awesome! I hope I don't say anything dumb!" He, ...

Chopped off arms

Buenos días, las personas del mundo! Hey guess what? God has a plan for you. It's pretty cool. It's called the plan of happiness, because it makes you happy. And you can't be happy if you're bored, so God needs to keep your life spontaneous. And the only way to do that is to hurl some trials at you. Sometimes that trial is a giant freaking ice storm.  La tormenta de hielo  A couple days ago, everyone in our mission got a text from our car leader saying that a giant snow storm was approaching, and that we aren't allowed to drive until probably Monday night (tonight).  This was a little surprising because all of that day, and leading up to the storm, there wasn't a single cloud in sight. No sign whatsoever. It kinda reminded me of that one episode in Avatar the Last Airbender(iykyk).  But nonetheless, it came mid-day Saturday, buckets of snow getting dumped every minute. Then it dropped below freezing, and all that snow very quickly became ice. So yeah, now everyt...

Life is a highway

The other day I had a convo with Elder Bair and the end of it went like this: Elder Bair: When was District Council? A week ago? Me: No, I think like 3 days ago. Hermana Lopez: *face palms* No guys, that was literally yesterday. That basically sums up what time feels like on the mission. The days feel like weeks, but the weeks feel like days. La capacidad (competence) On Tuesday and Wednesday, we had exchanges with our STLs! (Hence the weird video in my album announcing it.) And it was my first time really leading out! Which was kinda scary, because it was my first time driving in 3 months and there was ice everywhere, and Sister Royce doesn't know Spanish, so I was on my own there.  During our exchanges, we had service at God's Pantry, where we give food to people and their families who are struggling. This time, we had an unusual amount of latinos who didn't know English. No one else who worked there knew Spanish, so I got to help translate for like 20 different latinos. ...

FIRST BAPTISM!!!!!

Image
Buenas tardes señoras y señores! Yes, you heard it from my title. My FIRST BAPTISM. Guau! La cárcel (jail) So I've realized that I haven't talked to y'all much about my friend who is now baptized and a new member. Her name's Norma! She loves pink, is a bit shy and doesn't talk a ton, but is so sweet!  About a month ago I think I brought up that some of our friends wanted to get baptized, and Norma was one of them! However, it took us until January 8th to actually get her on bap-date. This is mostly because of problems with her boyfriend. It's a long story of domestic abuse, jail, and deportation that I think, for Norma's personal safety, will not be discussed in detail here.  Anyways, this was probably the fastest-planned baptism in the history of Baptisms. We had a lesson with Norma on the 8th and asked her if she still wanted to be baptized. She said yes, and so we also asked her if getting baptized Jan. 18th would be good. Norma acknowledged that she migh...

Deep dive into Hell

Feliz Año Nuevo a todo!!!! Well, now it's 2026: the year that will be spent entirely on my mission! (The Blackout year, as they call it here.) It's crazy to think that next Christmas I'll still be somewhere here in Kentucky, but I'm so excited!!! Adios amigos On Tuesday, everyone found out their transfer info! Wow! Obviously me and Lopez are staying because of training, but half of our District are new people now! Crazy! And it gets a little crazier! Hermana Peterson is trio training her last transfer with the person she trained 2 transfers prior! And Elder Monson is also trio training as DL! So now every companionship in our District is training. Wild stuff! I'm gonna miss Elder Reynolds, Elder Brown, and Hermana Hansen, but it's also been fun getting to meet Hermana Graham, Hermana Wright, Elder Bair, and Elder Jones! Nochevieja (New Year's Eve) New Year's Eve we had dinner with the Bobadillas yet again! It was kinda bittersweet since half the people w...

Shrek: Watched in 3 different languages

Image
Feliz Navidad chicas y chicos!!! Ok it's transfer week, so I've ran out of time to say I lot of things that happened last week, but here we go: Nochebuena (Christmas Eve) Hermana Lopez and I made cookies and brought it to some of our new members and friends! It was awesome!  Then we had dinner and Secret Santa gift exchange at the Bobadillas (of course). And at this lovely dinner we watched the most Christmas-y movie ever: Shrek! In Spanish! I have now officially watched it in 3 different languages! (We watched Shrek in my middle school French class one time.) Navidad In the morning our District played Pickleball and came up with a District Handshake! (It's very cool.) And then we had brunch at The Bobadillas! For dinner we went to Felipe's! We played a lot of Mario Kart (the Spanish knock-off version.) We had a little tournament and surprisingly I got 2nd place! Yay! Then after we met back up with our District and played Secret Hitler with red lights on the stage of ou...

Week 11: Piñata and everything

Image
Feliz Navidad mi amigos!!! This week was lots of fun and had lots of miracles!!! Fun P-day  I went to Buccees for the first time! We went with our District on P-day! Then we played Secret Hitler afterwards! It was a blast! The perfect lesson (La lección perfecta) Lopez and I had the most ideal lesson ever! It was with a new friend we went to visit named Sofia! We taught her about the BOM and she fell in love with it! She asked us why other churches hadn't taught her about it, and we said that the other churches didn't believe in it. Then she basically asked, "Why? The Bible literally talks about there being other prophets." And we were like, "Yes!! Exactly!!" So yeah, she said she wants to tell all her friends about it! Zone Conference! (La Conferencia de Zona) This Friday was my first Zone Conference! It was super fun and apparently more chilled out than usual for the Christmas season! We got to watch Mr. Krueger's Christmas which is mas o m...

Week 10? I got a guitar!!!!

Image
Hola! Qué pasa! I hope y'all's Christmas season is going well! Here's what happened this past week: 1)We went on more intercambios (exchanges), but with our STLs this time! It was so fun! And also weird going English speaking for 24 hours! 2) I got a guitar! When on exchanges with STLs, I told them I could play it, and they said they had one! So they gave it to me and I immediately started jamming on it! The next day when we switched back, they gave it to me and said it was mine because neither of them play it! Woohoo! 3) Our friend Leo went back to Peru :( And we were worried that he might not continue with our church when he went back, but yesterday he sent us a picture with 2 Peru missionaries! Woohoo! :D 4) The temperature here has gone down to the negatives! One morning we had to scrape off a half-inch of ice off of our car! Yikes! 5) Hermana Lopez and I felt a prompting to check up on one of our inactive families who lived a little further out. So we knocked on their ...
