Week 1: Spanish or Vanish
¡Hola hermanos y hermanas!
Week one is done! Home MTC has been a wonderful time, and I have made many great friends like my companion, my district, my teachers, and most importantly, Google Translate!
Español
Every morning, I have a 3 hour Spanish class taught by the one and only Hermano Ramirez! On our first day, he taught us many of the important basic greetings, which were very helpful! But then, at the end of class, he dropped the bomb on us: after today, NO MORE ENGLISH in his class! Everyone in our district looked at each other with the same fearful expressions. We had to learn Spanish quickly! So from that time on, Google Translate, Embark, and I became best friends! To make sure I didn’t look like a fool, I wrote a prayer in Spanish just in case I was chosen to say it the next day. And tada! I was, and I didn’t look like a fool!
Even in just one week, my Spanish has improved fantastically! I’ve now learned how to say my testimony, my favorite scripture, and so much more in Spanish! Hermano Ramirez encouraged us to bear our testimony in Spanish for Fast and Testimony meeting tomorrow, so wish me luck!
Mi Compañera
Throughout most of my first day at home MTC, I was having a hard time feeling the spirit. I think it was the combination of dealing with a new schedule and not getting much of a chance to socialize with my District over zoom. Then, in my afternoon class, I finally got the chance to talk one on one with my companion, Hermana Adams! We got to go into breakout rooms with our Companion and talk about what spiritual experiences have brought us closer to Jesus Christ. Hermana Adams and I clicked immediately, and I felt the spirit so strongly. I knew, and still know that the Lord chose us to be Companions for a reason. Mostly all of my anxieties left me throughout the rest of the day, and I finally felt like an official missionary!
Misionera en la Casa
It's been interesting having one foot in the mission and one foot at home. All my missionary classes end at 6, so I’ve had the chance to go hear my Riverton friends sing in their first choir concert of the school year! They did so well!
I also had some nice “last suppers” and birthday celebrations with friends! I’m glad I got to say some final goodbyes to them!
Pensamiento Espiritual
On Tuesday, we watched a devotional by Elder Todd Christofferson, where he talked about Preaching Redemption. He gave the sto
ry of Alma the Younger, and remarked that Alma was visited by an Angel to stop working against the church. In our lives, he mentions that God no longer sends angels to call people to repent and come unto Christ. Instead, he sends us, his disciples. We need to “be the best angel (we) can for them.” I love this quote, because the Lord knows that the people in these Latter Days can receive personal revelation from him, and be inspired to help others know the truth!
So anytime you get inspiration to help someone around you, please act on it!
Hasta Luego!
